topHow often will I find out about how my book is selling?
Sales figures will be listed with your annual royalty statement,
which usually mails in October.
topWhat's the best way to tell my friends and colleagues about my book?
The two best methods are:
- Use our new "share this page" feature on our Web site to email a link to your book
page on www.greenwood.com.
- Clip the URL for your book page on www.greenwood.com and
send a group email with an imbedded link to that page. You are also encouraged to make it a part of
your standard signature in your personal and professional email correspondence.
topWill my book be sold by online retailers?
Yes. A few months prior to publication, your book will appear
on www.greenwood.com and your title information will be sent
by us automatically to most major online booksellers.
topWhat if the descriptive or availability information on an online retailer's site is wrong?
Online retailers gather their book information from many
sources, so it's difficult to tell where typos and other misinformation on their sites come from.
Often, a book's availability is listed as "out of stock indefinitely" or "on backorder." Their stock
status information can be out of date, and sometimes it is just plain wrong. What messages like this
usually mean is that they don't currently have inventory sitting in their warehouse ready to ship,
while we do have books in our warehouse. Yes, it will take a few extra days to get the
book from us, but no, it won't take a book buyer the four to six weeks that their
language sometimes implies. Please feel free to contact the online retailer directly to
correct this information using the "comments" or "feedback" links on their site.
topWhat can I do to improve my sales ranking with online retailers?
The sales ranking number on some retail sites are often
meaningless in real terms. Because of the sheer volume of titles they offer, encompassing
hundreds of thousands of books in print, our books consistently rank in the six-figure range.
This number is in no way an accurate reflection of how a book is selling, nor is it indicative
of the fine job and diligent effort put in by the GPG marketing team. While the number should be
disregarded, we encourage authors to add a comment to their book pages if they wish, and have friends
and colleagues do the same.
topWill my book be found on the shelves of major retail chains and "superstores"?
Alas, the answer is most likely, no. Most of the books on their
shelves are from large trade publishers, who are able to provide the deep discounts
(up to 55%) that they require. However, any bookstore—even the major chains—should
be able to order your book directly from us. We recommend that you contact your local booksellers
directly to encourage them to stock your book. Most are proud to support local authors, and are
more responsive when they know you'll be checking up on them from time to time. They can
contact our Director of Sales for discount and ordering information at any time.
topWhy doesn't the promotional copy match what I wrote in my Author's Questionnaire?
Though we consider and accommodate author's suggestions
on descriptive copy and biographical information whenever possible, all copy is subject to final
approval by our marketing department managers and copywriters, and is usually adjusted to conform
to our house style in order to maintain consistency from book to book.
topHow do I set up a book signing or a book launch event?
Authors should contact local bookstores and other
interested organizations directly. Once contact is established and a tentative plan is in place,
you should have someone from the bookstore or association call our sales department, and we will
assist them with buying the books at a discount.
topHow can I find out where my book has been reviewed?
The best way is to check your Greenwood Web page
periodically, since we add positive reviews to our database shortly after receipt, and
these get added to the Web site within a week of entry. For a complete search of reviews, it
is best to consult with your local librarian for a complete search of all citations in subject
and library literature.
topHow can I order copies of my book?

on the status of an existing order, you can contact customer service at
800 225 5800.
